DIfferent Schottky diode
« on: May 26, 2015, 19:42:05 »

I'm collecting the components to build my own AstroEQ kit, for me buying at Farnell is not an options since the minimum order amount is 50 euro, and I'm not even close to that. Finding the proposed Schottky diode (CREE - C3D06065A - DIODE, SCHOTTKY, 6A, 650V, TO-220) is easy enough, but getting one shipped to my place in the Netherlands costs 8 euro. Will an other Schottky diode do, eg a 5 Amps 100Volt or 10 Amps 45Volt?

Alternate diodes are fine. Just make sure that it can handle the continuous current requirement without too much power dissipation. Generally the higher the current rating the better as it means it will cope with less heating.
If you're unsure, let me know what you can get hold of and I'll have a look at the datasheet.

I'm thinking of ordering this http://www.produktinfo.conrad.com/datenblaetter/150000-174999/163670-da-01-en-Diode_8TQ100.pdf Schottky diode. From what I can see the specs are almost the same, for our purpose.

That one looks fine. In fact it looks like it is probably a better part - it has a lower forward voltage drop for the same current rating.

Hello and congratulations on this wonderfull project!
It is my intention to upgrade my EQ3-2 mount with AstroEQ GOTO system with DIY version of the controller. As I'm not an expert in electronics I'll just ask you, more experienced folks, a few questions  :)
For now I'm going by the parts list and collecting bits and pieces from ebay and local store. Everything is more or less clear to me except C3D06065A scottky diode, so I decided to just revive this topic. I'm unable to find this particular diode but found some (posible alternatives?). I'm not sure which particular info from datasheet to look for regarding scottky diodes and need some guidance. Here are my potential alternatives:

1) MBR745 http://www.onsemi.com/pub_link/Collateral/MBR735-D.PDF
2) MBR10H100CT http://www.onsemi.com/pub_link/Collateral/MBR10H100CT-D.PDF

Are those ok?

thanks in advance,
Igor.

Hi Igor,

The MBR745 looks like a good alternative. Forward voltage is nice and low, and the current handling is high.

The MBR10H100CT is a dual packaged one so has the wrong pin arrangements.

Good luck with your build :)

Tom.
