Quiet EQMOD Slews, Loud GOTO's
« on: March 05, 2016, 05:21:20 »

HI again, I've finally got my Astroeq up and running. I've been playing with it indoors to get used to it and discovered when I slew with EQMod that there is just a quiet whine from the motors, even at 800x speed.

When I goto using Stellarium it is much louder even when I have the goto speed 100x. I'm testing the mount unloaded for now. The best way to descibe this sound is vibration/rattle.Is there anything I can do to make this quieter?

Scratch that. Apparently 800x goto is much quieter so I'll just use that.

Hi,

Just the natural sound of stepper motors. They do like to hum and click. When everything is mounted and there is a load on the shaft it may get a little quieter, but the good thing about astro stuff is sound pollution doesn't affect the pictures/viewing.

It will be louder on Go-To movements as the motors are switched into a larger ustep mode (e.g. they go from 1/32 in slew to 1/4 in goto). This is done to achieve a higher torque so higher speed movements can be performed.
