PHD2 Guiding - which mount to select
« on: May 08, 2016, 21:49:15 »

Just getting going with AstroEQ, and rather than burden Tom, who has been extremely helpful so far with yet more emails, thought I would ask here.

I have an EQ mount and use PHD 2 for guiding with a QHY 5Lm guide camera.  It now proudly sports two NEMA 14 stepper motors with the pulleys and belts described on the 'Make your own brackets page'.

When connecting to the mount in PHD, what choice should I select?

ASCOM Dome Control and Telescope Chooser don't fit the bill and I guess anything with diagnostic or simulator in the title are out too.  Likewise GPINT and GPUSB (which was my previous equipment with the dual axis motors).

EQMOD ASCOM HEQ5/6 seems a bit closer but perhaps Generic Hub or POTH Hub would be better choices?

"EQMOD ASCOM HEQ5/6" is the correct choice. That loads the EQMOD driver which talks to the AstroEQ.

Don't be fooled by the name (HEQ5/6), EQMOD reads the configuration from the mount when it loads, so even if your mount is not an HEQ5/6, it will still work fine.

Just piggy backing on this post.

Do you also select the EQMOD ASCOM HEQ5/6 if you use want to use the ST4 port for guiding?
I have a ZWO ASI120MM with a SkyWatcher 9 x 50 finder scope that I want to use for Guiding.

Hi Raoul,

Yes, if you are using PHD2 for guiding, just select EQMOD ASCOM as you would from any skychart software. Don't worry about it saying HEQ5/6 - the AstroEQ reports its gear ratios to EQMOD so the name is irrelevant.
