EQ2 supported?
« on: May 21, 2016, 01:08:36 »

Hi there. I've just acquired a near new SkyWatcher EQ2 as a lightweight portable mount for my 5DII and 135L type setup. It came with a RA drive but the controller has a variable speed dial as opposed to a set sidereal rate button like the older EQ3 mount drive I had. Been thinking about fitting AstroEQ to it. Anyone else had success with this?

It may well be possible. Do you know what the RA and DEC worm gear ratios are?

The hard part I think would be fitting motors to it. The EQ2 as I remember is a rather tiny little thing. Not sure what there is in the way of metal to use as a mounting point for motors.

G'day, and thanks for the reply.  No idea of gear ratios are yet.  Actually, looking at it more detail, I don't think it will work.  It's so tiny the motors will clash as it rotates in RA.  Might have to go back and experiment with the EQ3 instead.
