Nema 17 take a short paus every sekond.
« on: January 26, 2017, 07:20:43 »

Hi Tom
I boughte a AstroEq for a few weeks ago and i test it at my table.
The motor stay up for a short time every second (approximately).
it does not matter if a try 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 or 32 u-steps.
I have attached a laser on the shoulder so I can clearly see that it halt

The motor is a 2-phase 0,4 A 200 stepps Nima17 ( I have ordered a Nima17 1.2 A)
What do you recommend?

I have read on this topic was written in May 2015. Shall i jump 2 pins on the IC ? (but its a new AstroEQ?)

Hi,

Have you made sure that the current limit is set correctly? (https://astroeq.co.uk/currentlimit).

What gear ratios are you using?

Hi Tom

I have not set any limit for the motors. It is 12 v motors. I need to change something?

On config program i set 1.8 angle + 36:1 (gearbox)+ 13.666 :1 (big belt wheel)

My gear is now on my desk and I have attached a laser pointer on the output shaft. I can see exactly how the engine works.

Regardless of the motor voltage, you will need to adjust the current limit setting for the motor drivers to match the motor phase current spec.
If the current is being limited too much, you may find that it cannot properly microstep - you shouldn't see the skipping mentioned in the other thread when using 1/4 or 1/8 stepping, so if you are it is more likely to be a current limit problem.

Thanks Tom.

The problem is solved! I have now adjusted the two engines. One of 0.4 A that I put on 0.20 V and one of 1.2 A, which I put 0.6 V (RA- engine)
I will switch to 1.2A later

Now it evenly and finely laser.
Brilliant!!
