Sorry  - just realised had this originally posted in the "AstroEQ Support" section a few hours ago!

Hi All

Would appreciate if any fellow members here has had the experience of doing the conversion of a standard (non-Gemini) G11 mount over to AstroEQ.

Tom, thank you for the very prompt delivery of my order (shipped almost the moment payment was received!) and am awaiting RM <->Austpost delivery soon.

1) What Nema 17 motors and what kind of rating please
2) Was thinking of coupling the steppers directly to the worm shaft with a flexible coupler rather than belt drives and gears - good idea or bad? Was thinking of this one: https://www.omc-stepperonline.com/hybrid-stepper-motor/nema-17-bipolar-18deg-60ncm-85ozin-064a-10v-42x42x60mm-4-wires-17hs24-0644s.html?search=Nema%2017
OR
3) How about this one? : https://www.omc-stepperonline.com/geared-stepper-motor/nema-17-stepper-bipolar-l33mm-w-gear-raio-51-small-planetary-gearbox-17hs13-0404s-cg5.html?search=Nema%2017 which has a 5:1 planetary gear set up.

Hopefully would get some feedback to this as am prepping in readiness for the arrival of the controller due very soon.

TIA
Cheers

Hello.

1) I would go for nema 17 1.8* degree step motors. Just order from ebay, look for good torque ratings. You can do nema 17 0.9* degree step also. But there might be some speed issues anf you need to know how to solve problems if you have eny.

2)Go for belt drive if it is possible whit g11. Definedly no for eny flexible system.

3)I dont think the chinese 1:5 system is good. Go for belt!

Not here often. Try to post in cloudynights forum. Pm me there my nick is JukkaP

hi Jukka,
I'm done with my losmandy G11 uprgrade. tested and approved!
I use 0.9 stepper from oriental motor, about 20 n/cm torque, direct coupling. See the picture below.
I got draw and printed 3D motor plate too.
If you need some stuff or reference, get in touch.
See you,
xavier

Nice and tidy work!

You will have good guiding on that mount whit the 0.9 motors. Not sure about slew speed?

Anyway, glad that you got all sorted out!

Any chance you could post the source you used for the stepper motors you used. They look like what I need for my custom mount project. Thanks much.

Hi All,

Just a question to those who successfully completed a AstroEQ fit to a Losmandy G-11 EQ mount - what were your settings that you used for the first set up.

I'm using NEMA 17 motors (0.9* step; 36Nm torque), direct drive to a high-precision worm from Losmandy.

I have been trying to work through the set up parameters when first setting up the AstroEQ (EPROM Programming) and would like to know what setting you used (ie gear ratio's, what slew speeds etc).

any help would be greatly appreciated.

kind regards

Rick
