NEMA 17 Motor
« on: October 24, 2015, 13:32:55 »

Tom,

I need some advice regarding the step motors.

You mention here to use either NEMA 11 or 14 motors. I have 2 NEMA 17 motors with a rate current of 1.8A per phase.
Will these work it is the 1704 model on this page: http://jkongmotor.en.made-in-china.com/product/pvdJZFXCiRks/China-Jk42hs40-1704-NEMA-17-3D-Printer-Stepper-Motor-42mm-Reprap-Motor.html ?

You can use NEMA17's if you want, 14 and 11 were purely based on size. One thing to be aware though, the current rating must be less than 1.2A/phase. Also based on another thread you probably want a motor with a rated voltage between 6 and 12V.

Tom,

Thank you. I better get some other ones as the ones I have are 1.8A per phase.

hi,
if i wanted to use nema 17 over nema 14 motors, what would be the benefit?
and also would that mean the pullies and belts would have to change also?
if nema 17 motors are better, would these do the job?
