Hi,

I currently run a pair of Longs Motor Nema 23s. They are solid but for driving my scope they are a bit slow.

The spec is

RA 1:144 worm 1:12.5 RS gearbox.

1.8 degree
8V 
18mH
1 amp per phase
18 ohm coil resistance.

Running these at 12 volts is fine, but I can only manage about X80 for the goto.

I've looked about and there are quite a few NEMA 14/17s available:

0.9 degree
4V
4mH
1.33A per phase.

Has anyone experience of these or a recommendation.

Also, is anyone using 5:1 planetary gearboxes on their steppers? Any observations?

Finally got round to finishing everything.

Ran for three hours last night tracking Saturn and was unable to detect any drift using an illuminated eyepiece. The only limitations I have now are due to my very old EQ3-2 mount. Although everything runs stone cold the axes are just too stiff and clunky. I need a lottery win and a new eq mount.
