DEC motor stopped responding
« on: June 14, 2019, 23:16:16 »

Hello Tom

My DEC motor stopped running. What is strange is that I can swap drivers. The RA works but the DEC doesn't.

What preceptitated this, is me. I pulled the wrong PSU brick to power the AstroEQ while working USB HUB issues with RPI3B+. What should I check to ensure the function of the AstroEQ? Both drivers work in the RA port. DEC does not function.

Thank you

Hello,

Using Debug, I find this problem with DC. With these repeated strings of failure, the last line says success. Funny. It must be a red herring.

Hi,

All of the output from the debug mode there is perfectly normal. Some of the calculations the config utility does require calculations in several unknows, so has to iterate through several values to try to find a good solution for your gear ratios. The fact that it says success at the end means that it found one that is acheivable.

As to why the config seems to be blank, that I'm not sure about.
Which version of the config utility are you using? (latest?). Is the firmware of the AstroEQ the latest version? Have you tried writing the configuraiton again?

Hello Tom,

The AstroEQ is at the current Rev. Check Firmware says no updates. I am using the current debug.

What is troubling is the dead DEC. I thought I could use debug to see the communication between the OS and the driver. Nope, the debug version does not track success of driver talk. I am continuing investigating my problem.

Thank you for taking time to reply. I will post my reply when I find out the need.

I'd try the Update Firmware button again, just to make sure that the firmware is up to date.

Hello Tom,

I have it working. The problem was the DEC RJ-11 cable. Apparently, it broke apart after three uses. I also have the AstroEQ running under AstroBerry (Ubuntu Mate). I created a custom rule for it. Now for a clear night.

Thank you for your replies. The PSU was appropriate. It was not the cause. The cable was never under stress. But, it was broken.
