Skipping steps in AR Motor
« on: September 10, 2019, 17:06:26 »

Hi everyone.
I am having problems with skipping steps in AR motor.
My system is an EQ5 (brand new) and a Reflector 130/900 with only a 5 kg counterweight.
I have installed two NEMA 14 steppers motors.
Everything is balanced.
I have tried to solve the problem increasing the current limit, but as the current goes up, the problem gets better, but not enough.
I have also tried decreasing the goto speed. Again, the problem gets better but it does not disappear.  In fat even at tracking speed the AR motor skips steps, mainly when the counterweight rod is close to the horizontal position.
I have thought in changing the AR motor by a NEMA17.
Have anyone  got the same problem?
Kind regards.

For sure you have already checked this but, just in case: have you checked if your system is well-balanced in both axis? (mount + telescope + cammera + ocular, etc)

Hi Victor,
Thanks a lot for your help.
As I said in my post, I do have balanced everything, but it wasn't enought.
I have changed the motor by a NEMA 17 0.9ยบ in AR axis (I have no problem with DEC), with much more torke. I have solved the problem with skipping steps.
As I am new with EQMOM, I am testing everything, mainly autoguiding. At the end I whant to be able to take good pictures.

Thanks again Victor
