My mount is a budget CG4/EQ3-2 with AstroEQ v4.6 controller. This info may answer some of your questions.
Does it sit BETWEEN the mount and a computer?
- Yes, you'll need a USB cable to connect to a PC. In my case, it is connected to a wireless computer (ZWO ASIair Pro) via a USB cable. The controller is connected to R.A./DEC motors via phone cables.
IS it a stand alone unit that attaches to the mount?
- It is not a stand-alone GOTO controller. You'll need a PC connection for that. However, with a key pad, it can function as a stand-alone hand controller.
Does it go INSDE the mount after removing the old controller board?
- I don't think you can replace existing controller board without modification. AstroEQ box is normally attached to the mount, OUTSIDE. It has R.A./DEC ports that can control respective axes via phone cables.
Does it have a port for a guidescope ... can I use software to control a guidescope to guide my mount?
I found mention of ST4 port in FAQ but does it even NEED this?? what is EQMOD and does the board have this built in?
Will it allow use of guide camera?
- Yes it has an ST4 port that connects to camera's ST4 port. Star guiding is done via software like PHD2.
In my case, I don't use ST4 guiding/cabling. Instead, star guiding is via ZWO ASIair Pro.
Hope it helps.
