Wifi for AstroEQ
« on: September 16, 2015, 15:42:21 »

Hi All,
Just throwing this out there for discussion:

There is a new(ish) chip out called the ESP8266 that is essentially an SoC with complete wifi capability that can communicate via it's UART with an Arduino or other microprocessor. It comes with a TCP stack and can be programmed with several languages. There is quite a bit of info on the web about this chip and seems to be growing all the time as people become aware of its existence.

It seems on the face of it that it would be relatively simple to add to the existing circuit design. Although, the enclosure would probably need to be larger.

Do you think this would be a possibility for AstroEQ?

I know that Bluetooth is in the works which is great, but wifi would offer another wireless method of communication.

Thoughts?

Bon

That may actually be possible. Theoretically once I get the Bluetooth add-in working it would be possible to simply swap out the BT module with that Wi-Fi module. Not sure about space in the enclosure.
