Nice  8)

Where did you get those low profile momentary pushbuttons if I may ask? I'm working on hand controller too but cannot find suitable switches  :-\

Ah, I see. But, for widefield viewing, if it is set at 4x or 8x speed, tracking is not even neccessary (while centering, that is). After centering the target you turn the switch back to its first position (sidereal tracking speed). So, what I intend to do now if  this doesn't work, is to set goto speed to 8x prior to obseving session and use switch position 3 for centering but then I loose faster goto speed for moving the mount to the new target. It is not a big deal as I still have both of my hands for that :)
But if it is complicated, please ignore this post, as, for me, the primary function of the AstroEQ is for imaging and for that it is, ofcourse, connected to the PC.

Best Regards and merry Christmas!
Igor.

I'm in a process of building a hand controller and I have two questions. At the beggining of this topics, it is said that 2k resistor should be soldered between pin1 and pin2 of the st4 port to switch the speed to 2x sidereal. But on the schematics it is 3.9k resistor. I guess it will work in both cases but I need confirmation just to be sure. I also want to know if its possible to predefine some other speed for that switch position instead 2x. I'm using wide field telescope on my mount so 2x sidereal is quite slow for centering the target.

And, btw, thank you once more for your efforts and this magnificent project.

DIY AstroEQ / Re: Astoeq tracking pause every seconds.

Given the success that you've had with the diodes, I've designed a quick PCB (see pic) which would go inline with both motor cables to add the diodes.

I'm going to send the board off for manufacture and will test out how well it works while I'm back over Christmas/New Year period.

Hi!
Is there copper Layer PDF Printout for download anywhere? My motors are 1.3A 2.5ohm/phase so I think I'll need to add diodes to prevent skipping microsteps.

Hi Pierre,

Plenty of ICs available. You can order them on the purchase page.

Tom.

Great! I'm oredering too, then  ;)

AstroEQ Support / Few questions regarding Config. utillity
« on: February 24, 2016, 09:19:35 »
First of all, big thank you Tom for this project! I've put together AstroEQ board for my EQ3 mount and it works fine :). For the moment I'm using stock motors until I somehow make brackets for better steppers (Nema17, 1.8deg/step). While configuring AstroEQ I came into some doubts. When setting no. of microsteps and pressing update is that value taken only for that motor or both? Or to make it simple, is it possible to set different ustep settings for both motors? Another question is about slow and fast movement which cannot be changed. For example, when selecting 8 ustep mode utillity sets 8 usteps for slow and 1 ustep (or was it maybe 2?) for fast movement (thats for slewing I gues?). But when I select 4 ustep mode it takes 4 usteps for slow and fast movement! Why doesn't it take less usteps for fast movement? And one more for the end  ;D How to determine max slew rate? Is there some rule or is it trial and error?
Sorry if I missed something obvious. I did search through the forum but couldn't find answers.
Thanks!

DIY AstroEQ / Wire thickness
« on: February 05, 2016, 07:17:11 »
Are those 4 pin RJ11 cables which can be bought in walmarts suitable for connecting motors to the controller? My motors are 1.3A max but I'm thinking of limiting it to about 0.8-1A with the driver. Or should I make custom cable with somewhat thicker wire?

Igor.

Hi Tom!

I would like to buy programmed ICs only.

thanks in advance,

DIY AstroEQ / Re: DIfferent Schottky diode
« on: December 20, 2015, 10:59:14 »
Hello and congratulations on this wonderfull project!
It is my intention to upgrade my EQ3-2 mount with AstroEQ GOTO system with DIY version of the controller. As I'm not an expert in electronics I'll just ask you, more experienced folks, a few questions  :)
For now I'm going by the parts list and collecting bits and pieces from ebay and local store. Everything is more or less clear to me except C3D06065A scottky diode, so I decided to just revive this topic. I'm unable to find this particular diode but found some (posible alternatives?). I'm not sure which particular info from datasheet to look for regarding scottky diodes and need some guidance. Here are my potential alternatives:

1) MBR745 http://www.onsemi.com/pub_link/Collateral/MBR735-D.PDF
2) MBR10H100CT http://www.onsemi.com/pub_link/Collateral/MBR10H100CT-D.PDF

Are those ok?

thanks in advance,
Igor.
