DIY AstroEQ / Re: My first Project with AstroEQ
« on: February 19, 2019, 19:26:48 »
i have like type 1 and they works good but type 2 also must be ok,
Motors are quite different in size and shape so better consider which one is better to mount.

AstroEQ Support / Re: Increase the size of the Pulley's
« on: November 02, 2017, 11:21:11 »
Of course pulley size matters, but in my opinion much better (theoreticaly 2x) is using 0.9 degree steppers. Slewing time increases but smaller full steps leads to more precise small movements - i.e. guiding.
Also very important is right current adjustement to stepper motors and even more important is the mount itself. It needs to be adjusted and greased for smooth movement on both axis, of course better if mount have some kind of ball or roller bearings whitch greatly helps for "unsticky" little movements mostly in DEC axis.
Also for guiding mount balancing is very important, there are multiple methods, like precise balancing and precise polar alignment or precise polar alignment and slight disbalancing or even polar misalignment on purpose for steady guiding only to one direction.

General Discussion / Re: EQ3-2 DEC loose worm bearing

i think budget mounts cant be without backlash and one degree is not a problem. Most popular solution is using slight disbalancing un DEC axis (RA too) so gears are always touching. Here is nice video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uK2bXfVNoQU

AstroEQ Support / Re: Very slow gotos when Ustep Gear Changing is disabled
« on: May 08, 2017, 22:40:23 »
I'm using v8.0 firmware from Release downloads page and GoTos working correctly.
My settings are 32usteps, and Gear changing disabled.
RA x800 fast movements (1.8degree stepper) and DEC x500 movements (0.9 degree stepper) are maximum system can handle (obtained in experiments)
works beautifuly, slews are quiet (compared with v7.4) and very precise, target objects always appears in center.

Mine is DIY, rather roughly
NEMA17 steppers
pulleys 15T:72T (1:4.8 ) RA, 15T:60T (1:4) DEC
MXL belt

General Discussion / Re: AstroEQ Firmware V8.0 Released

Thanks, thanks, thanks!
I've changed mount motors and really waited for this, expecially for "Gear changing" option.

Dimensions are in SkechUp file, DEC have shorter belt, RA - longer.

AstroEQ Support / Re: Slewing Goto problems

Its definitely backlash in gears as it happends to east direction. Star moves in Earth rotation speed while gears caches up.
Small effect is completely normal, but can be reduced or removed completely by gear adjustement and/or slight mount disbalancing.

General Discussion / Re: CDC Slew vs EQMod Slew, Noisy Motor Issue

I also have this issue - very noisy and vibrating slewing... It would be very nice to have this feature as configuration option in next config utility version!
