Beta Firmware Releases / Re: [Completed] AstroEQ 8.0.3(beta)

@Jagho
I wonder if the lower supply voltage coupled with transients created by the motors is causing the +5V line to drop out and reset the ATMega.

OK, Tom,
I'll try to increse the voltage to 10.8 V (max for DRV 8834) and see what will happen.

I've got some progress, after firmware updating.
So, there's not "...EEPROM Blank or Corrupt!" message and even EQMOD is working properly and slewing but only some 30-40 seconds. Suddenly, it stops and there's no reaction like in the previous TEST 2.
I still have these 1-2 seconds sounds from motors while turning on the system. It's not a problem but I mention this because it perhaps may be a clue (or not :) )

DRV8825 board with DRV882x config settings still works properly.

Oh, I see, Tom.
I'll try to do so tomorrow and let you know.

Yes, I've got AstroEQ7-ConfigUtility.zip file from the first post of this thread.

otherwise I would not be able to set DRV8834 in the firmware.

Test 1
I was testing 7.5 version with DRV 8825 first.  Everything seems to work fine like @ 7.4 version

Test 2
I changed DRV8825 to DRV8834 on the board and changed DRV882x to DRV8834 in the firmware.
Power supply - 8 volts. Vref = 0.65V for my 1.4A stepper motors.
The first strange effect - stepper motors sound is heard BEFORE I run EQMOD (when I turn on the computer or plug USB). This sound takes only 1-2 seconds. Then I turn on EQMOD, another 1-2 sec. noise. Now, I have got EQMOD panel and I try to move S,E,N or W. Nothing happens. Even the RA and DEC coordinates on EQMOD window are not reacting to my pressing.
When I try to run AstroEQ Firmware Update Utility again. I've got messages: "Read Suceeded. EEPROM Blank or Corrupt!" and then "EEPROM Repaired. AstroEQ Ready for Configuration."

Test 3
DRV8834 on the board but I changed DRV8834 to DRV882x in the firmware. It "works" but motors sound very strange, louder and it seems to me the mount is slewing little slower.

DIY AstroEQ / Re: Astoeq tracking pause every seconds.

I was wondering what would happen if I use a 5v power supply for the steppers instead of 12v? Would this improve the microstepping? or the diode solution is my only option? If the 5v power supply would improve I can buy one with the fitting male connector.

The mimimal power supply for DRV8825 stepper motor controller is 8.2V, so it will not work for 5V, I suppose.
DRV8834 could be the solution - power supply 2.5 - 10.8V - but we have to wait for Tom's firmware update.

Thanks Tom, I'll be waiting.

I've got the question for Tom. I've found DRV8834 Low-Voltage Stepper Motor Driver Carrier:
https://www.pololu.com/product/2134
Is it possible the simple replacement with DRV8825 ?
... and could it solve the problem low voltage motors (1/32 microstepping) like mine (3,6V 1,4A),
because I can use lower supply voltage.

Hi,
I have the same problem with 3,6V 1,4A motor.

Change the motor is the best solution if you want keep the 1/32 microstepping.

I HAVE to keep 1/32 microstepping, so what do you think about the solution with the diodes ? You said "diodes are very hot". Why not using TO220 and radiator. Isn't it the best and the simplest solution ? Unless there were something more than hot diodes. Cedric02, you were testing it. What do you think about it.

What diodes you used ?

AstroEQ Support / Connection error
« on: September 15, 2015, 10:37:38 »
Hi,
I ran the AstroEQ with the Gemini G-40 mount. It works great ! Thanks for your advices, Tom, but I have a little problem from time to time. When I start the system and EQMod I get connection error. Not always, sometimes.
I disconnect USB and power cable and connect them again. Power first and then USB and everything works fine.
I look at the scheme. I think to power PIC 18F14K50 from 78L05, not USB. Could it help ?

Mount Support / Re: Gemini G-4x mount

Thank you very much, Tom,
and as to setting current limit, I should use the method described in FAQs ?
or there is a better way ? I have some tools, oscilloscopes, multimeters etc.

Best regards
Jarek

Mount Support / Gemini G-4x mount
« on: May 24, 2015, 16:03:56 »
Hi All,
I'd like to use AstroEQ for Gemini G-40/G-42 mount. G-42 manual says, that you can "use any other controller that can drive bipolar stepper motors with at least 1A/phase". AstroEQ (DRV8825) can drive this steppers easily, I think. G-4x is Direct Drive System (main gear 432). My question is. What are the proper settings of AstroEQ for this mount ?
There are settings for other controllers:
http://www.jgao.pl/pliki/setupg40.pdf
There are other controllers for Gemini G-4x/5x (e.g Pulsar) but there are much more expensive and not better then AstroEQ.
