RA Motor locked & getting hot
« on: January 15, 2015, 13:58:00 »

I have a purchased AstroEQ with the NEMA14 stepper motors and belt/pulley drives. Not used in anger yet, been too cloudy round our way. Mount has previously been working, slewing to targets in RA and Dec. Connected everything up today just to do some daytime practice in linking it all together. I now find that the Dec motor runs as expected but the RA motor is not moving, and getting very hot. When the AstroEQ is not connected, the fine adjustment knobs (connected to same spindles as pulleys) move both RA and Dec axes quite happily with no sticking or backlash, and the motors turn being driven from the belts.
So no mechanical issue.
Tried turning the RA motor current up a bit, but just gets hotter.
I have a multimeter but not sure what I should be looking for...any hints and tips gratefully received.
Going to reboot the laptop in case that helps..

OK PC reboot seems to have cleared it, now slewing & tracking happily and RA motor warm but not too hot to touch. Seems that Windoze was having a hissy fit...
